My grandfather, Otis L. Linn, used a small pocket notebook in the spring and summer of 1919 to record daily information of his activities, observations, and thoughts in the days and weeks before he embarked onboard an Army Transportation Service troop ship from Marseilles to New York City by way of Gibraltar and the Azores. The letters have been published in book form as The Letters of Otis L. Linn With the Y.M.C.A. in France Serving the American Expeditionary Force 1918 & 1919.
